Frequently Asked Questions
We usually have ~6 elk hunts during a season, along with ~8 antelope and ~6 deer hunts, but these numbers can fluctuate. Antelope hunts are in mid-September, deer hunts are at the end of October, and elk hunts are scattered between the end of September and mid-November.
We have over 100 applicants/year, so you have approximately a 1-in-5 or six chance of being drawn. We do not offer any archery elk hunts; all are rifle. Antelope hunts are rifle-only. Deer hunts are mixed archery (compound or x-bow) or rifle, which is landowner-directed. We are not an outfitter-like organization; we offer these big-game hunts for disabled individuals who qualify, with adaptive equipment provided to match each hunter’s needs. We provide companion hunters (1-2 and sometimes 3 per hunter) that act as guides.
Thank you for your interest in a hunting opportunity with Wyoming Disabled Hunters!
BEFORE you begin the WDH Hunt Application, you must apply for and receive all your disabled licenses for which you are eligible through the Wyoming Game and Fish (https://wgfd.wyo.gov/)
To complete the WDH Hunt Application, you will need to have in hand:
- Wyoming Disabled Hunter permit or Wyoming Disabled Veteran Permit
- Wyoming Shoot from Vehicle Permit (included with disabled hunter permit after 1/1/23)
- Wyoming Season Extension Permit
- Selfie picture
- If you are a veteran, your Disability Rating and Date of Discharge
- If you have PTSD, a doctor’s statement of PTSD treatment plan/status
Your disabled hunter, season extension and shoot-from-vehicle permits are valid for a lifetime in the state of Wyoming.
To qualify to hunt with us, we follow a particular process. All applicants must qualify and receive a Disabled Hunter permit issued by Wyoming Game & Fish; this disabled hunter permit is the one MUST-HAVE for all in-state/out-of-state hunting applicants before completing our online hunting application We do not recognize any disabled permits from other states.
Links to these licenses are provided on our “Applications” page, which is described in the preceding paragraph. I would encourage you to check out all the license links and apply for all permits for which you qualify. You will need to obtain those license number’s before and have them available when applying online with WDH during the open enrollment period.
Links for all three permits are here. All permit applications are simple, 1-page paper forms. They cost nothing and are lifetime permits (you don’t have to apply for them again). You must submit to Wyoming G&F the original paper applications as they need the applicant’s and doctor’s original signatures on each application.
Veterans must attach their recent VA disability paperwork (within the last year) to their applications. A non-veteran must have a doctor sign off in the bottom section of the applicable permit applications for which they qualify. You then mail all original license applications plus VA paperwork (with original signatures, not copies) to Wyoming Game & Fish at their Cheyenne, WY address at the bottom of each form via USPS. Submitting these applications can be done at any time during the year.
